Mike McVey

Mike McVey began his career in the miniatures industry at Games Workshop in 1987, where he was one of the original heavy metal miniature painters. In the 13 years that followed at GW, Mike went on to run the painting team and authored a series of influential miniatures painting guide books. He then re-trained as a miniatures sculptor and worked on many of the main Warhammer and Fantasy ranges.

In 1999, Mike took a position as Art Director at Wizards of the Coast in Seattle, USA, where he ran the D&D and Star Wars miniatures lines. After leaving WotC he helped to create and launch the Warmachine and Hordes miniatures ranges for Privateer Press – where he became a partner and Miniatures Director.

Mike left PP and moved back to the UK in 2007 to launch Studio McVey – specialising initially in consultancy work in the Miniature games industry, before starting an award winning miniatures range of his own. Following a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign, Mike started working in partnership with CMON on games such as “Blood Rage”, “The Others” and “Rising Sun”, before becoming Miniatures Director in 2016.
