Andrzej Sapkowski was Born in Łódź (Poland), in 1948. Despite his studies in economics, he has always been fascinated by fantasy literature. Thus, in the 90’s he started publishing stories starring Geralt of Rivia.
In 1986, he wrote for “Fantastyka” (the first magazine about fantasy literature in Poland) his first story called “The Witcher”, loved by both critics and readers. Following his first great success, “The Witcher” became a fantasy saga including both anthologies of tales (such as “The Last Wish” and “Sword of Destiny”) and novels (such as “Blood of Elves”, “Time of Contempt”, “Baptism of Fire”, “The Tower of Swallows” e “Lady of the Lake”), all published in Poland between 1992 and 1999. Thus he became one of the most popular fantasy writers in Poland.
Sapkowski was honoured with many literature awards both in his homeland and abroad. In 2007 CD Project developed “The Witcher”, a RPG videogame based on his works. The game, which sold more than 1 million copies, was distributed in Poland by CD Project and in the rest of the word by Atari. The third chapter of the series, called “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”, was released on May 19th 2015, selling more than 4 million copies within its first week.
At the end of 2019 a TV series based on “The Witcher” will be released on Netflix,
Sapkowski will be guest once again at Lucca Comics & Games thanks to the collaboration with the publisher Editrice Nord.
