Born in 1998 when Rick Berry suggested a live artistic collaboration with Phil Hale and Gerald Brom, as part of an exhibition of original works curated by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini and Roberto Irace, Area Performance has become a permanent event of the festival, offering 4 days of no-stop show. During the event, dozens of artists will perform alternately and their works will be destined to a charity auction at the end of the festival. The charity auction was inaugurated in 2002 by Emanuele Vietina, former director of Lucca Comics & Games, today general director of Lucca Crea.
After many growing-success editions, Area Performance, a no-profit cultural Association, was born in 2010, with the aim of enhancing charity projects, using the earnings from donations. Dynamo camp, Emergency and the children’s Hospital in Lucca are just some of the associations which, in the last few years, have been helped thanks to the exhibitions organized by Area Performance.
Quoting Karl Kopinski, one of the artists of LC&G, we can define Area Performance as an “artist playground”, beating heart of the art community, with both great names and rising stars of fantasy art and illustration. To name but a few, this year agenda of LC&G will include Paolo Barbieri, John Avon, Lucio Parrillo and many young talents, such as Mirti and Fabrizio Spadini.
A platform to exchange ideas and experiences, promoting values such as inclusion, respect and gratitude, long-time distinguishing features of Lucca Comics & Games. Not to mention the importance of discovering new worlds and points of view that Area Performance offers to both artists and festival visitors.
Here some of the artists which will participate in the 2019 edition:
Gabriele Stazi, Fabrizio Spadini, Elena Albanese, Mir Ti, Elisabetta Giulivi, Dany Orizio, Florinda Zanetti, Lucio Parrillo, Emanuele Manfredi, Francesca Urbinati, Eliah Zanoni, Fabio Porfidia, Phil Hale, Alberto Pagliaro, Karl Kopinski, Paolo Parente, John Avon, Adrian Smith, Melissa Spandri, Melissa Benson, Paul Bonner, Ivan Cavini, Beatrice Pelegatti.
